WELCOME to the Laurence Jackson School option advice booklet - Pathways to Success 2010.

After a broad and balanced KS3 curriculum you are now facing some important choices to best prepare you for future careers/college courses.
The 21st Century global economy has experienced more changes in the past decade than the previous 100 years. The North East of England has been amongst the hardest hit with staple industries like iron/steel and chemicals declining rapidly.



In an area where historically people have had 'jobs for life' school leavers today face the prospect of changing jobs between 10 and 20 times during their working lives.
At Laurence Jackson School we recognise these challenging and uncertain times and want to prepare our students to be able to compete in the complex and competitive global market with young people from all over the world.

This booklet is designed to guide your thinking, although we do expect you to have thoughtful discussions with your parents and subject teachers to ensure you arrive at the best outcome for you.
The National Qualifications Framework outlines how these various courses link together and allow progression.
