Successful outcomes at LJS for the Class of 2016

Cohort 2016 are the first year group to be judged on the new set of performance criteria and whilst it is a more complicated system and harder to decipher, it is clear that our Year 11 have performed really well across the board.

The whole year group deserve huge credit for their effort and commitment with many outstanding results for individuals.

Highlights include:

  • 100% A*-C outcomes in Biology, Child Development, First Award in Sport, Media, Expressway Engineering and Further Maths.
  • Over 90% in Physics, Chemistry and Dance and well over 80% in French, Spanish, ICT, Music and Resistant Materials. RE with 79.5% and History (78.9%) also did particularly well.
  • Over 80% of students achieved 3 Levels of Progress in English with an impressive 49.5% achieving 4 Levels of Progress.
  • Over 60% of the year group achieved higher grades in both English and Maths with 24% achieving the EBacc award, both showing improvement on 2015.
  • 43 students attained at least 5A* grades, 10 students gained 10 or more A*/A grades, 19 students gained 12 or more A*-C GCSEs and two students gained a flawless outcome of 11 or more A* grades in their GCSE exam results.

Headteacher Tony Gavin was delighted with the overall outcome: “Our Year 11 richly deserve their success; they were an excellent year group throughout their time at LJS and outstanding role models.  Their final assembly was inspirational and their Prom a wonderful experience.  They made a genuine effort to support the local community and engaged in numerous fundraising activities. LJS is proud of their achievements, academic and beyond, and wishes every single member of the year group all the very best for the future – the world is their oyster!

Finally, sincere thanks to the teaching and support staff at LJS who, as usual, have gone the extra mile to support and challenge our students and to the parents who make the final piece of the success jigsaw. It was a vibrant and positive three way relationship which helped to achieve these outcomes.

With a fantastic new building from September 2016, this is an exciting time at LJS and we will use these positive results as a milestone for even better outcomes in the future.

Tony Gavin
